Most baseball experts (and likely fans) think this World Series should be evenly matched, and the distribution of picks reflects that (as well as the number of people predicting a 6- or 7-game series). It’s the two best teams in each league, and the experts we found give the edge to St. Louis by a margin of 27-25. We prefer a bolder approach, so we picked it to end in 5. We’ll see how it all works out starting tonight.

Cardinals in 5. It’s no secret that we didn’t believe in the Red Sox for most of the year, but it’s not an anti-East Coast bias thing. However, there’s plenty of predictions from that direction that speak of a “special team” or “team of destiny” in Boston without any substance to back it up. It’s almost a scouts vs. stats situation. The reality is not so black and white. The Red Sox struggled against the Tigers’ starters, and that series was much closer than it appeared. When they do it against the Cardinals, young guns like Trevor Rosenthal and Carlos Martinez will be there to shut them down in the late innings as well. We think the brevity of this series will surprise, even if the length of the individual games doesn’t.
